Table Orders, KOT and Kitchen Display
in One Billing App

Turn on Restaurant Mode and the Khata Billing POS works as a table-order system. Each table keeps its own running order, saved online, so every waiter, cashier and kitchen screen sees the same order. Send new items to the kitchen as a KOT (Kitchen Order Ticket), print it on your thermal printer or show it on the Kitchen Display, and bill the table from the POS when the guests are done.

What You Can Do

Everything a busy restaurant needs between the order and the bill.

  • Keep a running order for each table, shared live with all your staff
  • Choose Dine-in, Takeaway or Delivery — it prints on the KOT
  • Record the number of guests and add a kitchen note on any dish
  • Send only new items to the kitchen as a numbered KOT, e.g. KOT-007
  • Print KOTs on 58 mm or 80 mm paper, up to 5 labelled copies (KITCHEN, COUNTER, CAPTAIN…)
  • Track every KOT on the Kitchen Display: New → Accepted → Cooking → In Progress → Ready → Served
  • Cancel items after a KOT — the kitchen gets a clear CANCELLED line
  • Move a running order to another free table
  • Bill the table from the POS and free it for the next guests
  • Decide who can send, cancel or update KOTs with staff permissions

How It Works

Set it up once, then every order follows the same simple path.

1. Turn on Restaurant Mode

Go to Settings → Restaurant & KOT, switch on “Turn on Restaurant Mode”, choose your order types and what should happen before billing a table, then save.

2. Add your tables

Open the POS. The owner adds tables with + Add Table and names them, for example Table 1 or Terrace 2. Each table is a tab on the POS.

3. Take the order

Tap a table and add items. Pick Dine-in, Takeaway or Delivery, enter the number of guests if you use it, and type a note on any dish, such as less spicy.

4. Send the KOT

Tap KOT (Ctrl + K on a computer), add kitchen remarks if needed, then choose Send only or Send & Print. Only items not sent before go on the new KOT.

5. Kitchen updates the ticket

On the Kitchen Display the kitchen taps Accept, Start Cooking, In Progress and Mark Ready. The POS shows which tables have food ready.

6. Bill the table

Take payment from the POS. The bill is saved like any POS sale — invoice number, GST, stock and payment work the same way — and the table becomes free for the next guests.

Who It Is For

Any food business where orders go from a counter or table to a kitchen.

Restaurants & Family Dining

Many tables, captains taking orders on phones, one kitchen working from KOTs.

Cafés & Quick-Service Counters

Set billing to send pending items to the kitchen automatically when you take payment.

Takeaway & Delivery Kitchens

Mark orders Takeaway or Delivery so the kitchen knows to pack, with a PACKING copy if you need one.

Dhabas & Late-Night Outlets

The business day can start as late as 6 AM, so KOT numbers do not restart mid-shift.

Good to Know

Limits and requirements, so there are no surprises after you sign up.

  • Every device needs internet. Table orders are saved online; if the connection drops, the screen shows “Reconnecting…” and keeps retrying.
  • Screens check for changes every 3, 5, 10 or 15 seconds — you choose this in “Live update speed”.
  • Tables are the POS tabs. Only the account owner can add, rename or remove tables.
  • KOTs print through the browser or phone print dialog. To print without the dialog on a kitchen computer, run that browser in kiosk-printing mode.
  • Automatic paper cutting is done by your thermal printer’s driver (Paper Cut → Cut at end of page).
  • The new-KOT chime plays only after one tap on the Kitchen Display — browsers block sound until then.
  • Stock and GST are recorded when the table is billed, not when a KOT is sent.
  • Up to 300 items per table order and up to 5 printed copies per KOT.
  • Cancelling items already sent to the kitchen needs the “Table Orders & KOT → Delete” permission (the owner always has it).
  • Not included: split bills, merging two tables, a floor-plan view, a KOT report after the table is billed, or a connection to food delivery apps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Restaurant & KOT billing free in Khata Billing?

Yes. Restaurant Mode, KOTs and the Kitchen Display are included in the Free plan, with up to 2 tables and sign-in on 2 devices at a time. Premium (₹1,499/year, or ₹999/year with code SAVE500) allows up to 20 tables, staff logins for up to 10 staff and no device limit.

Can the kitchen work without a KOT printer?

Yes. Set “After sending a KOT from POS” to “Do not print (Kitchen Display only)”. The kitchen then works from the Kitchen Display in a browser on a tablet, computer or wall screen, or in the Khata Billing app.

What happens if a customer cancels a dish after the KOT is sent?

Remove or reduce the item on the POS and confirm. The next KOT prints it under CANCELLED, and the Kitchen Display shows “CANCELLED — do not prepare”. Clearing a whole table marks its unserved KOTs as Cancelled in the kitchen. Staff need the “Table Orders & KOT → Delete” permission for this.

Can two waiters add items to the same table?

Yes. Changes from different phones and computers are merged, not overwritten. Other screens pick up the change within the live update speed you choose (3 to 15 seconds), and the table shows the name of the person who just updated it.

Which printers can I use for KOTs?

KOTs print through the normal print dialog of your browser or phone, sized for 58 mm or 80 mm thermal rolls, so you can use any printer that computer or phone can print to. For automatic paper cutting, set the printer driver’s Paper Cut option to Cut at end of page.

Does Restaurant Mode work in the mobile app?

Yes. It works on the web and in the Khata Billing app for Android and iPhone: table orders, sending KOTs, KOT history and reprint, moving tables, the Kitchen Display and the Restaurant & KOT settings.

Does Restaurant Mode work without internet?

No. Table orders are saved online so that every screen shares them. If the connection drops, the screen shows Reconnecting… and keeps retrying until the internet is back.

How do I control what each staff member can do?

In Staff → Permissions, give Table Orders & KOT (View, Add, Delete) to captains and cashiers, and Kitchen Display (KOT) (View, Edit) to the kitchen. Taking orders needs POS → View and billing needs POS → Add. Adding staff logins needs the Premium plan.
